This snowman is named for my Mother, Cleoetta. I was 12 when she left this earth. In the short years that she was with us she taught my brothers, sisters and I to appreciate the little things in life. I once saw her kneeling in some freshly falling snow. My initial thought was that she had fallen and I went to help her up. Upon my arrival at her side I realized that she was examining the snowflakes. "Have you ever really taken the time to stop and look at a snowflake?" she asked. "No two are exactly alike." We knelt there together, she and I, enjoying the beauty of the snowflakes and the companionship of each other.
All these many years later I still find myself catching flakes of snow,
examining their frosty beauty and remembering the dear, sweet women who taught
me to take delight in the simple things. If you look closely at the
Trena snowman you will notice the similarity in that design and the Cleoetta
design. This is no accident. I made my snowman to resemble that of my mothers
because I strive to be like her. If you will notice, however, the Trena snowman is just
a little more intricate. This signifies the fact that my Mother was constantly
sacrificing things that she desired so that her 12 children could have
"just a little more", than she was privileged to have and so that they could
become "just a little better."
